"Precision Can Make You More Creative" – What I learned from the 30-day Ramadan Photo Challenge

Ramadan this year fell in May/April 2021 and I decided to take on a 30-day photo challenge for more detail and background check out this post first “Fasting Thoughts”. The true value of this challenge came from what I learned.

I noticed that the from start to finish from coming up the concept took about 3 hours even if I was not focused on the time and on average it took about 70 to 80 photos per 1 hour shoot (roughly). That was surprisingly consistent and it was not like I was aiming for that. There were days where it took much more than that about 150 photos per 1 hour shoot. It was exceedingly rare that I only took 20 to 30 photos.

I realized the differences between taking many photos vs very few but with the same result is the amount of time I gave to preparing the concept. I was able to conclude that precision and preparation of your concept can be extremely useful in fine art photography. In fact it allows you to be more creative because after you get the shots you planed out you have more time to experiment even if you don’t use any of the experimental shots.
