The most expensive photo ever sold.

The most expensive photo ever sold at the time i am writing this post is “Phantom” buy Peter Lik. If you google this 6.5 Million U.S. dollar photo you will find that it is a beautiful shot of a place called Antelope Canyon in Arizona U.S.A. Believe it or not, Antelope Canyon is not some secluded sport off the trail, it is actually part of a tour. You can take the same exact photo! Which leads to the question:

What is so special about this photo?

Is it his notoriety, his reputation as a landscape photographer? Was he just at the right place at the right time taking the photo at just the right angle?

The Technique and Editing is spot on of course and on a personal level i think this is an amazing photo. I love the way that the natural shape of the cave leads me to the light on the ground which is the brightest part of the photo which captures my eyes right away then the dust in the beam of light leading me up to the subject which is the beam itself almost looking like smoke. The fact that it is black and white gets rid of any color distractions and helps draw the focus to the beam as well.

You can not deny it is a beautiful photo, but is it worth $6.5 million? My thoughts are it doesn't matter. The fact still remains that someone was willing to pay that much. Which taught me two things.

One, not everybody has to like your work. The vary nature of fine art is subjective and just because you created a pretty photo does not mean everyone will like it. You can make a bad photo but it can speak to someone. The point it to enjoy what you are creating and your work will touch someone as a result that they pay millions.

Two, there is more to fine art and fine art photography then creating amazing photos. I dont know why but i am excited to learn more about it and find out how i can become a more well established Fine Art Photographer as this is where my passion in photography lies.

I hope this post helped or helped you learn something new. Please consider giving a like and/or a share to this post and be sure to check out other posts here and follow me on Instagram, Tiktok, twitter and/or facebook.
