Fasting Thoughts

I thought it would be fun to challenge myself to a 30-day photo challenge. For some reason I decided to do it during Ramadan (April/May 2021) which made the challenge that much harder. To come up with a concept shoot it edit it and post it in one day is hard enough let alone doing it hungry and thirsty and tired. The good news is that work hours are shortened during Ramadan in this country, but I only had a 3 hour window before iftar (breakfast). This is because I knew after I thought I would not be able to move let alone do anything else. There were days where I had to work on the challenge after iftar however they were few. There were even times where I only had a 2-hour window because I would have to get ready to go to iftar gatherings.

Cairo Backstreets

Cairo is one of the biggest cities in the world. Like any big city it has many layers. With a population of 20 million people there is always something happening on the streets of Cairo however the backstreets is where you can find the city's heart and soul. A totally different vibe you can always feel and see. These Backstreets are often home to generation. It’s not just where people go about their day, it’s also where kids play, lifelong friends meet, business is conducted, and communities grow. You will always find the best and most authentic street food. Partly because it is always made fresh and partly because there is always made with extra flavor. If you ever find yourself in the backstreets of Cairo, take a moment to apricate its Authentic beauty.

Over the years, on my photography journey, while exploring the different types of photography I took on paying jobs to get experience and to find out if i would enjoy making money while being a photographer. The short answer is yes but the long answer is that i learn so much from those jobs, not only about the business of photography but about the types of photography that is out there. I respect every type of photography as i know that each type is its own specialty. The tools and concepts are the same, but the experiences and techniques are skills that need to be mastered. Any self-respecting photographer has one or at most couple type of photography they are interested and/or good at. Most people think if you are a photographer, you know how to shoot any type of photography, but if you think about it, you will not hire a food photographer to shoot your wedding and you would not hire a wedding photographer to take macro shots of your food for your business. All photographers go on this journey and the lucky ones find there type early.
